Day 1: March 4th, 2016
As the riders all meet for the first time, I look around and think to myself, how will I ever learn 37 rider names along with 12 staff members. Then I think, not only will I remember all the names but these people will become my family in the next 52 days and some will become life long friends. The excitement and apprehension is palatable. Tomorrow we will begin our journey.
Day 2: March 5th, 2016
San Diego to Alpine
Day one is done. A gorgeous day to pedal 42+ miles and climb over 3800 feet into the mountains. The climbs were a little tough for a gal from Florida. Overnight tonight it will be in the low 30s. Leaving a warm sleeping bag in the morning will be difficult.
Day 3: March 6, 2016
Alpine to Live Oaks Springs
Leaving camp this morning, I thought I would be a little cold today. Little did I know that I would be riding in the toughest conditions I have ever ridden in. Cold, raining hard, and 4000 feet of climb, some of it pretty steep. When we would come upon a vista though the views were incredible. A ride in a warm vehicle to end was offered but I am determined to ride every mile if at all possible. I knew this ride would challenge me and today did not disappoint.
